On August 24, 1943, Ruby Nell Sublet-Thomas was born in Pittsburg, Texas. She was the child of Willie Bell Sublet and Ella Ree Freeman-Sublet. She attend Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Texas. Ruby later relocated to Dallas, Texas in the 1960s. She started her nursing studies at ATI where she received her Medical Assistant Certificate. She continued her education at El Central College where she received her Associate’s degree. During her free time she did a few modeling jobs and took on a passion for traveling. She begin her nursing career working in neighborhood hospitals like Methodist and Parkland. She also worked at the West Dallas Development Center. She later started working as a private duty health care nurse where she excelled among other families. Her overall goal was to help others. During this phase of her life she adopted the role as a second mother to many. She was the greatest supporter of people getting closer with God. When she wasn’t caring for other families she enjoyed spending time with her grands and great grands. Some of the things she enjoyed doing was puzzling and sewing. She also was an avid collector of elephants. She will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to assist.
At an early age she accept Christ as her personal savior. In her passing she was a member of New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she was a part of the mission outreach ministry and the Season Teenager committee.
She is survived by her siblings, Willa Marie Brown of Las Vegas, Barbra Ann Wilson of Dallas, Diane Sublet of Dallas, Dorothy Thomas of Big Springs, Pasty Quinn of Dallas, and Willie Bell Sublet Jr. of Cedar Hill; daughters, Ella V. Johnson (Clyde) and Susie Johnson ( Danny); sons, Errington C. Hatch (Samantha) and Anthony Carter (Sonia); grandchildren Marcus, Twanna, Violett, Victoria, Errington Jr.; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents, Brother Roy “Cookie” Wallace; and great-granddaughter, Samora Lee Conner.
