SHERMAN BERNARD LACY

February 17, 1965 — January 24, 2025

Sherman Bernard Lacy, a beloved patriarch and a remarkable culinary artist, was born to Anita Fern Wade and Kenneth Wayne Lacy Sr. on February 17, 1965, in the vibrant heart of Dallas, Texas. He departed this world on January 24, 2025, enveloped by the warmth of family love in Grand Prairie, Texas. Sherman lived a life that was rich in spirit, talent, and a profound commitment to those he cherished around him.

As a self-taught executive chef and culinary artist, Sherman's hands were as adept at crafting exquisite dishes as they were at molding young minds on the football field. His career bristled with creativity, as he navigated both kitchens and coaching sidelines with an effortless grace that reflected his laid-back personality. He was not just a chef but a master of flavor who transformed ingredients into incredible feasts that brought people together, weaving bonds over shared meals and laughter.

Beyond his culinary prowess, Sherman embodied the role of a dedicated husband to Tanya Anderson-Lacy, and an inspiring figure to his stepchildren, Ryan Whitehead and Aliyah Dabney. He was a steadfast pillar of support, offering encouragement and guidance, reminding them always to chase their dreams and to believe in themselves. His unwavering devotion extended to his mother, Anita Wade, his siblings, Kenneth Lacy Jr. (Princess), Donna Holland (John), Richard Lacy, Steve, Ebow, Kenya and Stephanie, aunt, Mary McCants and stepmother, Alda Diane Lacy, forging connections that resonated through heartfelt family gatherings.

Sherman's spirit was marked by a unique blend of humility and strength; he was a protector, a provider, and a man of few words who spoke volumes through his actions. His cool demeanor belied an underlying humor that brought joy to those lucky enough to bask in his light. He reveled in the joy of life, often found cheering for his favorite sports teams, a testament to his lifelong passion for athletics that began in little league and continued through his high school days at Kimball High School, where he was a state finalist in wrestling as well as standout track star.

His faith was an integral part of his identity, deeply rooted in a respect for his pastor, Alton Dixon, which guided him through both triumphs and challenges. Sherman’s positive outlook on life inspired those around him, establishing him not only as a mentor but as a beacon of hope and encouragement.

The world may have gained a bittersweet quiet in the absence of Sherman Bernard Lacy, yet his legacy lives on richly in the hearts of Tanya, Ryan Sr., Aliyah, Anita, Kenneth, Jr, Donna and Richard, grandchildren, Ryan Jr and Braylin, siblings,  and countless nieces, nephews, one great nephew and friends who were fortunate to know him. As we gather to honor a life as flavorful as the meals he created and as sturdy as the foundation he built within his family, we invite all who knew Sherman to come celebrate his indelible impact.
