Mrs. Shirley Ann McDonald Burks was born on November 30, 1948, to the late Jim McDonald and Lela Shepard in Rusk County.
Shirley attended elementary school at Fairview and graduated from Laneville High School. She united with the Anadarko Christian Church at an early age and later united with Allen Chapel Baptist Church.
Shirley was musician for several years at Anadarko Christian Church. After graduating high school, Shirley moved to San Diego, California, where she lived for several years.
Shirley later moved to Dallas, Texas, and was employed with Rochester Gauges Inc. for 23 years.
Shirley met and married Mr. Tommie Burks. No children were born to this union, but she gained five children.
Shirley enjoyed family gatherings and was a loveable person. Just being in her presence was infectious. She enjoyed dominoes, dancing and just having a great time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lela McDonald, brother, Jim McDonald, Jr., and husband, Tommie Burks.
She leaves to cherish her memories: special companion, Mr. J.D. Wilson; a sister, Barbara Davis-Scott of Jacksonville, Texas; brother, Marvin McDonald of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Tracee Burks-Collins; four sons, Tommie Burks, Jr., Troy Burks, Tawakon Wright and Tedric Hubbard, all of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, aunts, nieces and nephews; neighbors on Marla Drive; and a host of other relatives, friends and sisters-in-Christ, Ms. Paula Emerson and Mrs. Selena Freeney of Dallas, Texas
