THEOPIES ASKEW

July 9, 1946 — December 28, 2020

Theopies Askew was born July 9, 1946 to Burk and Robertia Askew in Waldo, Arkansas. At an early age, he attended Shady Grove Church and professed a faith in Jesus Christ. He remained a faithful believer until he departed this earthly life. Theopies graduated from Oak Grove High School in Rosston, Arkansas in 1965. After graduating high school, he relocated to Dallas, Texas and joined the New Galilee Baptist Church. Theopies was an active church member and remained a faithful member until his health failed him. In the course of his Christian journey, he served as a deacon, a trustee, an usher, and as a Sunday school teacher. He rarely missed a Sunday church service and volunteered many Saturdays to clean the church to make sure it was welcoming and ready for Sunday worship. He loved the New Galilee Baptist Church family and always served with a willing heart and kind spirit. Once settled in Dallas, Theopies met his wife Ruby where they had two sons Theo Jr. and Tredis. He found employment as a Stucco and plaster worker with Walter Stockdale for approximately 10 years. He became a highly skilled Stucco and plaster worker which led him to start his own business Stuccoing and remodeling houses throughout the Dallas area. Theopies enjoyed his work because it gave him an opportunity to meet and socialize with people which is something he took delight in doing. He worked diligently until he retired in 2019. Theopies was a devoted and loving husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and always looked forward to the annual family reunion. Theopies touched many lives with his good natured-smile, gentle spirit and kind words. He was a loyal friend and highly regarded by his family and friends. Theopies departed this life on Monday, December 28, 2020. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Askew; parents, Burk and Robertia Askew; brothers, Eddie Lee Askew and Joseph Askew; and sister, Jessie Mae Askew.
