Trumaine Hermar Smith , 41, of Dallas, Texas entered into rest on April 8, 2023. He was born August 23, 1981, on a sunny, Sunday morning, the first-born to Patsy and Nolen Smith.
Trumaine grew up in Ivan, eating his grandmother’s baboon soup and whole-heartedly enjoying the country life. Whether it was long evenings with friends and family, feeding the chickens, or running from snakes, Trumaine was known for making everyone laugh. He absolutely loved cartoons, this definitely added to his creative side, even painting and drawing his very own characters. Trumaine joined Aimwell Baptist Church at an early age was an active member.
Trumaine graduated from Benton High School in 1999. Some of his fondest memories were made representing the Tigers on the football team. He went on to get his Bachelor’s degree in Business Hospitality and his Master’s degree in Sports Management, both from The Grambling State University. As a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Trumaine “The Big Show” held the two most important offices in the chapter, KRS (‘02-’03) and Basileus (‘02-’05). Under his leadership, the Gamma Gamma Chapter earned many accolades, including being awarded the District and International Chapter of the Year.
After moving to Dallas, Trumaine met the love of his life, Angela. Their playful and sincere relationship was radiant as they both were a blessing to many. She is the woman who supported him through life’s ups and downs and through sickness and health. She made a special impact on his professional endeavors. Trumaine worked as recruiter for The Art Institute of Dallas before finding his true passion. He tirelessly and faithfully supported his family by working as an educator, fulfilling many roles as coach, teacher, advisor, and athletic director. Throughout his career, he made an impact on students in DeSoto ISD, Duncanville ISD, Dallas ISD, and most recently at Episcopal School of Dallas.
Though Trumaine wore many hats, his most meaningful was creating a loving family with Angela. His children; Tate, Kaylee, and Trent were the perfect buddies for living-room dance parties, cooking, celebrating one another, and lots of family fun.
Trumaine was a true man of integrity and great perseverance. His commitment to his wife and children gave him fuel for the long and rigorous health journey he had to face. He was determined to heal for his wife and kids. He taught himself how to complete dialysis treatments at home and endured six difficult years of dialysis so that his family could continue to enjoy their favorite activities, which included traveling. Even when times got hard, his witty banter and comical sense of humor warmed the hearts of his loved ones.
Trumaine was the most loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Angela; sons, Tate and Trent; daughter, Kaylee. As well as his parents, Patsy and Nolen Smith; his siblings, Tremond, Taylor, and Tangela; in-laws, Donna and Tyrone Boton; brother-in-laws, Justin and Anthony; Godmother, Ivy Bray; and a host of family and friends.
Trumaine was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family and friends that love him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to be a compassionate source of intellect while being able to sacrifice, provide, support, and love will be forever engrained in all he knew.
Rest well, Tru. We Love You.
