Virgel Eugene Givens, of Dallas, TX, passed away at the age of 90 on May 30, 2023, at Methodist Dallas Medical Center with his wife Queen Ester, at his side.
Virgel Eugene Givens was born in Lone Oak, TX, to Virgil and Opal Givens on March 30, 1933. He married the love of his life Queen Ester Everidge Ferguson of Dallas. In his youth, he played with the Negro Baseball League as a switch-handed pitcher. He retired from Lone Star Park as a Cook. He was one of the founders, a faithful member, and tither at his church, Way of the Cross Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, usher, and usher board member.
Virgel Eugene Givens is survived by his loving wife, Queen Ester Givens, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his sister Annie Johnson and brother M.M. Givens.
Virgel Eugene Givens is preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Opal Givens, two stepsons, two sisters, six brothers, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The viewing will be 1:00pm – 5:00pm, Family Wake: 6:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Golden Gate Funeral Home, 4155 S R L Thornton Fwy, Dallas, TX 75224. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, June 9, 2023, at Way of the Missionary Baptist Church, 2950 E Ledbetter Dr, Dallas, TX 75216. Repast will be at church following the funeral services.
