WILLIAM FLOYD

December 2, 1942 — December 21, 2020

William Thomas Floyd, Sr. was born December 2, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas to the parents of Robert F. Floyd, Sr. and Aubrey C. Earl. He graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School, where he was a member of the “Mighty Wildcats” basketball team.  He and his family attended Beth Eden Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board.  Later, he moved his family to First Saint John Cathedral, where he served as a greeter, and was loved by his pastor and church members.  William Floyd, Sr. was affectionately known as “Paw Paw” to his family and everyone who knew him. He was a very gentle, kind, and loving person, who felt the love of anyone with whom he came in contact. He was a man of integrity and full of wisdom to share with his family and friends. His favorite hobbies were fishing and working on his 72’ Chevy truck.  He loved repairing anything he could get his hands on.  He was the family’s everything, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

William Floyd, Sr. departed this earthly life on Monday, December 21, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert F. Floyd, Sr. and mother, Aubrey C. Earl; brothers Robert F. Floyd, Jr. and Melvin Floyd.

William T. Floyd, Sr., met the love of his life, Myrtle R. Buchanan-Floyd, fifty-six years ago. They shared so many wonderful memories together and celebrated life’s triumphs and joys while supporting one another through the best and most difficult times.  He purposed in himself to love and provide for his wife and family until the Lord called him home.

William Floyd. Sr., leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness for his family and friend to cherish in his memory.  He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Buchanan-Floyd; children, Janice Graves, Aubrey Freeman (Mark), William Floyd, Jr. (Tirina), and Audrey Taylor; grandchildren, Jamil Edwards, Michael Mobley, Aerial Chenault, Kelvin McSwain, Lauren Taylor, and Leah Taylor; a host of great-grandchildren; sister, Millie Ledbetter; nieces and nephews, Michele Floyd-Moliere (Damon), Dionne Anglin, Tiffiany Buris, Ryan Floyd, and Rashid Floyd; great niece, Madison Anglin; great nephews, Brooklyn Paul (Precious), Tyler Childress and Pierce Floyd; and a host of great-great-nephews and nieces and a host of relatives.
