Willie “Butch” Johnson was born September 5, 1950 to Willie and Selena Johnson in Fort Worth, TX. He was born the third of four children. He worked throughout high school and was a proud graduate of the class of 1969 at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He also attended Tarrant County Junior College to study architecture, but later decided to enter the workforce.
In his early years, Butch worked for the American National Insurance Company. In 1983, he began working for the US Postal Service Bulk Mail Center in Dallas, TX. After 30 years of service, he retired in 2013.
In 1967 he met the love of his life, Patricia. Six years later on January 6, 1973 they were married. To this union of almost 47 years, two beautiful daughters were born, LaTonya in 1976 and Kimberly in 1981. Willie “Butch” and Patricia “Pat” enjoyed a full life. They enjoyed cruises, concerts, traveling, church activities, and spending time with family.
They especially enjoyed their frequent visits to Hot Springs, Arkansas. He loved the relaxed and tranquil environment. Butch and Pat could often be found taking walks on the beautiful trails. His love for cooking and entertaining usually meant a full house on Sundays and almost every holiday. He was known amongst family and friends for his barbeque.
Everyone who knew him knew he was a devoted brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was an especially proud grandfather who took great pride in attending many activities for his grandchildren including Soccer, Volleyball and Basketball games. Butch never allowed his ailments to prevent him from missing any events or special occasions. He was a faithful servant at Greater New Hope COGIC, Greater Love Chapel COGIC, and Holy Tabernacle COGIC. He worked tirelessly in many roles including Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday school teacher, choir director, financial officer, and a member of the mass choir and male chorus.
Those left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife Patricia, two daughters: Latonya Irving (Jonathan) and Kimberly Wood (Joseph); grandchildren Destiny, Dawson, Dylan, and Bryce; siblings Johnnie Marie Lindsey(Victor), Mary Gulley, and Harold Johnson (Cynthia); and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
