Darryl Bernard “Punch” Jones was born June 10, 1964 to Gladys Marie Punch and Pastor C.J. Jones. His early education was with St. Anthony Catholic School and his high school years were in the Dallas ISD where he was a graduate of the Class of 1982 of Business Magnet School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp, which he loved and served proudly for six years. He always said, “once a Marine, always a Marine”.
Darryl met and married Valerie Kay Lewis and together they were blessed with two daughters, Alexandra Kanice and Savannah Elyse. Darryl’s early years were spent growing up in COGIC church. He became an Ordained Deacon at the Southern Crest Full Gospel Baptist Church but later accepted God’s call to ministry. Darryl and his family joined the Community Missionary Baptist Church on July 20, 2003 under the leadership of Pastor Oscar D. Epps, Sr. He served well in the capacity of former Assistant Pastor.
Darryl will forever be remembered for his fun-loving and free spirit. He had the ability to make you laugh, even if you didn’t want to. He always wanted to “show you his moves”, which makes you laugh just thinking about it.
Darryl is preceded in death by both his parents, his brother, William James Punch, Sr. and his sister, Patricia Punch. He leaves to cherish as his legacy: two daughters, Alexandra Kanice Jones and Savannah Elyse Jones; two grandchildren, Khalil Ashton McKnight and Sa’Riyah Kay Nelson; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Darryl will truly be missed.
